For Grandparents- What cliques or crowds were present in your high school?

Q: I am doing some research for my Adolescent Development class, and I need to ask this question to grandparents. Since I have none of my own, I thought some of you grandparents may be able to give me some information. Thank you very much!

A: Well, I graduated in 1961. There were the black leather jackets and the girls who hung out with them were considered loose (w/o morals). Then there were the intellectuals; not necessarily popular, but the nerds would fit into this type of student. They always got A's and were the teacher's pet. There was the athletic and pompon girls who were considered the "popular"students b/c they always were coupled and "going steady." This was always shown by the guy wearing the girl's class ring on his pinky and the girls wearing the guy's ring either on a necklace or made smaller by winding tape around the back of the ring. (they were also the most likely to "go all the way.") Then, there were those who seemed to be able to fit in anywhere they wanted. They might be active in their church or synagogue, scouts, athletics, music, part time work, co-op program, or looking toward college (usually jr. college). This type of student didn't feel he/she needed to fit in or be categorized into one group or another. They just did their own thing. They followed the rules most of the time, got passing grades, and thought about preparing for a trade or college and profession. They respected their parents, teachers and most adults. They were a little shy about dating, but really wanted to go "out" with someone. Can you guess which group I was in?
